- To drive legally, you must be of the appropriate age and present a valid UK/Northern Ireland provisional Category B driving licence. If you possess a photo card licence, you are required to produce both the card and its counterpart. For an older paper licence, a valid passport must also be presented as photographic identification.
- To comply with the minimum vision standards, you must be capable of reading a standard UK-approved number plate from at least 20.5 metres (67 feet) away. Should glasses or contact lenses be necessary for you to meet this standard, you are required to wear them every time you drive.
- You are required to inform your instructor of any changes in your ability or eligibility to receive driving tuition, such as a revoked provisional licence or medical conditions like epilepsy.
- To cancel a lesson, you must provide at least 24 hours’ notice. Failure to do so will result in a charge for the lesson(s). Cancellations can be made via telephone or text message but must be confirmed by your instructor.
- If your instructor is on time at the agreed pick-up location and you are absent, they will wait for 10 minutes. If no contact is made within this time, they will leave, and you will be charged for the lesson.
- Your instructor will strive to be punctual; however, unforeseen events such as breakdowns, accidents, or traffic delays may necessitate a change or cancellation of lesson times. If your instructor cancels, you will not be charged.
- Payment for lessons is required in advance or at the time of the lesson via cash, cheque, or online transfer (account details provided upon request). Prepaid lessons must be used within six months. Cheques should be made out to Roy Stubbs.
- All fees must be settled in full before the test day.
- You must not be under the influence of drugs or alcohol during training. If there are signs of misuse, your instructor will prohibit the use of the vehicle for tuition or the driving test until you are legally fit to drive. Declare any medication that may impair your driving to both the instructor and the DVLA medical board. Fees for lessons cancelled due to drug or alcohol use will not be refunded.
- If you do not achieve a satisfactory level of driving and pose a risk to other road users, or if you are unfit due to substance or alcohol abuse, the ADI must inform the DSA examiners and prevent the use of the training vehicle for the driving test. This measure safeguards the student, the examiner, and the public. The Driving Standards Agency’s regulations prohibit taking a practical test solely for the experience.
- The DVSA bears no responsibility for cancelled tests, regardless of the reason. Although lessons must be paid for, their cost may be reimbursed by the DVSA. The instructor is not liable if you fail the eyesight test. However, the instructor is accountable if the test is cancelled due to the condition of the instructional vehicle.
- For Motorway, Pass Plus or Refresher lessons a full valid licence must be produced with identification as above.
