How do I start learning to drive?

To begin learning to drive on public roads in the UK, you must hold a valid provisional driving license. You can apply for one online through the official Gov.uk portal once you are 15 years and 9 months old, but you cannot drive on public roads until you turn 17. On your first lesson, you must bring your provisional license and be able to read a standard vehicle number plate from a distance of 20 metres.

What driving tuition vehicle do you use?

I teach in a modern Vauxhall Corsa 1.2L petrol (manual transmission). For your safety and reassurance, it is equipped with He-Man dual controls, which allow me to step in if needed. It also features full air conditioning, power steering, and a highly adjustable driving position, making it a very popular and comfortable car for learners of all heights and sizes.

Do you offer automatic driving lessons?

No, I currently only offer instruction in manual transmission vehicles. Learning to drive a manual car is highly recommended as it grants you a full UK driving license that permits you to drive both manual and automatic vehicles. If you pass in an automatic car, you are legally restricted to driving automatic cars only.

How many driving lessons will I need to pass my test?

According to DVSA statistics, the average learner requires around 45 hours of professional driving tuition combined with roughly 22 hours of private practice. However, this varies significantly for everyone depending on previous experience, age, and individual learning styles. During your initial lessons, I will assess your driving skills and tailor a personalized progress plan so you can become a safe, test-ready driver as efficiently as possible.

Which areas do you cover for driving lessons?

I provide local driving instruction across several communities in Cornwall, including Truro, Falmouth, Perranwell Station, Redruth, Camborne, Penryn, Threemilestone, St Agnes, Mylor, and Carnon Downs. If you live slightly outside these boundaries, please feel free to reach out to discuss if a convenient pickup/drop-off point can be arranged.

How do I book my theory and practical tests?

You can book both your driving theory test and practical driving test online directly through the official GOV.UK website. I strongly advise against booking through unofficial third-party booking agents, as they often charge unnecessary premium fees. Make sure to consult with me before booking your practical test to ensure the tuition vehicle is available for your chosen date and time.

What is your lesson cancellation policy?

I require a minimum of 24 hours notice for any lesson cancellations or changes. This allows me sufficient time to offer the slot to other pupils on the waiting list. Cancellations or changes made with less than 24 hours notice will be charged at the full rate of the scheduled lesson.
